OUR PRAYERS ARE REQUESTED FOR Canon Brian MacNamara, whose funeral took place in Derrylin on Friday last with burial in Killesher Cemetery.  Fr. Mac, as he was affectionately known, was born in Belturbet in 1931.  He was a much loved priest of Kilmore Diocese, most especially in Fermanagh, where he served as parish priest for 29 years.  He was a great personal friend of mine and I had responsibility for his care and welfare since he retired 5 years ago.  He endured a lot of sickness in the last couple of years most especially.  I was on ‘holy ground’ when I was in his presence helping him to accept his suffering.  He brought joy into the lives of all those who knew him and is lovingly remembered by the older generation in Belturbet area.

May he Rest in Peace.

BAPTISM PREPARATION PROGRAMME

Next Meeting: Belturbet – 2nd November - To book  Mary 087 7655069.

Naturally arrange the date/time of Christening with me.  There will be one weekend in each month for Baptisms in the three parishes.  This is to ensure that there is a priest available each and every weekend for the sacrament.

THE SACRAMENTS:  Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the Church and the family of God. It is a serious commitment on behalf of parents to bring their child up with Christian values and as part of a believing community.   In years past it was presumed that the baptised child would be brought up in the context of a community, attending Mass each week, a member of Christ’s Body, supporting and helping each other; a member of a believing community, a parish, to which each person belongs and to which each person has responsibilities. This presumption can no longer be made.  Parents therefore should consider carefully the decision and the commitment involved in baptising one’s child i.e. bringing one’s child up in the practise of the faith. They make a promise to God to do so. Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation are sacraments which are steps on one’s journey of faith. Each needs careful preparation and consideration. Each of the sacraments involves commitment and as with any commitment the commitment to live a life of faith involved in the sacraments should not be undertaken lightly. Otherwise the sacraments are but a one day wonder and not part of the ongoing pilgrimage of life.

THE CHILDREN’S REMEMBRANCE EVENT 2017:  Remembering Pregnancy Loss & the Babies and Children who have died within our community.  An invitation is extended to families, siblings and anyone affected by loss within the childhood years, Sat. 21st Oct. in St. Aidan’s Church Butlers Bridge, at 2.30pm. (Please note the change of day/venue).  Light Refreshments following event in The Derrygarra Inn adjacent to the church.

Open to those on no payment, carers or disability payments etc. 13-week courses will run two mornings a week in locations throughout Cavan and Monaghan. Build your confidence, learn new skills and develop a Personal Plan. For info. call Cavan Monaghan ETB on 087 1967888 or email ceinwenfergus@cmetb.ie

WEEKLY ENVELOPES AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

Perhaps this month of October is a good time to check our boxes and see if there are any envelopes that need to be brought in.  Much better to do this now rather than in the weeks before Christmas.  The Finance Council very much appreciates the generous contributions that we receive for parish funds.  All of us have a responsibility to give a little each and every week.  Thanks very much again for your goodness with regard to these matters.  In conversations with others always try to make the point that everyone has to play their part in building up the parish resources.

2008 was another year in which the semi-final hurdle of the Intermediate Football Championship proved too high for Drumlane. However, new club secretary Jimmy Kelly gives plenty of reason to believe why the Sons of O’Connell shouldn’t have any fears heading into the future.

Barbara Stewart and Thomas Small are collecting memories of the Robinson Brothers.  It is a splendid and well deserved tribute to an exceptional family.  Barbara and Thomas respectfully ask that you contact them with your individual stores, anecdotes, special memories etc. before they are lost and gone forever.

Please contact either of them; Barbara - 087 929 2609, Thomas 087 690 4338 and they will be glad to discuss the project with you.  Success depends on your kind contributions.

Many thanks

As the sun set on the final day of the 2008 Fleadh Ceoil an Cabhain all attention was drawn to the Drumlane Bar where revellers were treated to one of the most memorable sessions held there in recent times.
03 - 06 - 2008
Day 3 of Fleadh Ceoil an Cabhain 2008 was competition day for a lot of the younger musicians and dancers. Local rock outfit, Ian I Brow provided an extra musical dimension to proceedings. Brendan Smith T.D. and other local politicians were also in attendance. Small groups of musicians had also set up in every corner and alcove around the village to provide mini sessions for a very appreciative audience. See below for images of the day.
01 - 06 - 2008
For day 2 of Fleadh Ceoil an Cabhain 2008 a veritable host of talent was on display, from local musicians and dancers to those whose dedication to a tune had brought them from further afield. See photos of the night's entertainment.
