Drumlane underage girls football teams had found it difficult to compete at underage level in recent years. A concerted effort was needed by all if the teams were to compete at a good level in all competitions.
Preparations for the 2009 season began at the end of February with training taking place twice weekly. In April the U 14 team completed in the county Feile na nOg competition. The girls got to and played the more experienced Templeport team in the semi-final. It was a tough game and the girls made Templeport fight all the way. However, Templeport made it to the final. Yet Drumlane could be very proud of the skills and the level of determination shown.

The draw for the league placed us in the top division 1A (13 a-side) against very tough opposition,
Crosserlough
Templeport
Ballyhaise
Belturbet
Castlerahan
Mullahoran

Drumlane finished 3rd in the division behind Crosserlough who went on to win both league and championship and were crowned Feile champions. The girls played some excellent football throughout the league and recorded some exciting wins over more fancied opposition in the campaign. There was an outstanding level of commitment shown by the girls. Support for the team grew throughout the campaign and this was much appreciated by the girls and all involved.

Expectations were high after the successful league campaign that a favourable draw in the championship could lead to further success. However, Drumlane were drawn against the eventual championship winners Crosserlough in the 1st round. Despite the strength and experience of the Crosserlough team, Drumlane went in at half time only trailing by 5 points. Eventually Crosserlough went on to win the game. It was a disappointing end to the most successful year at this level in a considerable time. Congratulations and well done to all the girls involved you done us proud.
