Drumlane pair Declan Lunney and Ryan Connolly helped St Patrick’s Cavan to reach their first Ulster Colleges’ final in six seasons with a power-packed second-half display against St Patrick’s Maghera in the BT Dalton Cup semi-final at Derrytresk yesterday.

The teams were tied, Maghera 1-5 to Cavan¢‚¬„¢s 0-8, at the break, with Christopher Dempsey finding the net for Maghera and captain Ryan Connolly and Ronan O’Reilly driving the Cavan response.

However in the second half, the Breffni boys hit a five-minute purple patch in which they recorded an impressive 2-4 to see the game swing in their favour.

Ronan O’Reilly and Ben Conhey bagged the goals that opened the gap and, despite Maghera fighting back with a goal from Michael Mullan, Pearse Smith clinched the victory with Cavan’s third goal.

Cavan will now face Abbey CBS in Thursday¢‚¬„¢s final at Pearse Og, Armagh, where throw-in is at 2.00pm.

All support from the Drumlane club for Declan and Ryan at the final will be greatly appreciated.
