Belturbet Trout Angling Club
– An Introduction –
The association has been in existence for some 28 years. The club waters for most of that period were on the River Erne at Kilconny, Belturbet. Due to the popularity it acquired over the years, it was decided in 1996 to stock the Holy Lake with Rainbow Trout.
The Holy Lake
With the blessing of the landowners around the lake, the assistance of the Northern fisheries Board and funding to the tune of IR£36,000 from the EU backed Leader 1, this was achieved. The Club owes a debt of gratitude to David Elliot for giving us a right of way to the lake and allowing us to build facilities at the lakeside for mooring boats and parking cars.
The lake has proved to be an outstanding success for stocking rainbow trout as it is totally spring fed, and is 40 acres in area. There is now a membership of over one hundred anglers with members from as far a field as Belfast, Dublin, the Midlands and everywhere in between, and also includes a strong local membership. Visitors are welcome, with boats available for hire as is a wheelie boat for the disabled angler. Only fishing with Artificial fly on rod and line is allowed here.

The River Erne
For river fishing, the club waters are situated on the scenic stretch of the River Erne between Kilconny Bridge and the Railway Bridge within the town of Belturbet. On one bank you have the wooded and scenic Turbet Island, and on the opposite side the amenity park. Picnic tables are available for the hungry and weary angler.
It is an ideal section of river for Brown Trout fishing, with a combination of fast runs and slower pools. Over the years this stretch of water has produced many fine trout. Only fishing with Artificial fly on rod and line is allowed here.
