Our village space was a development undertaken by Drumlane Community Partnership CLG. in 2017. The purpose of this development was to enhance the approach to the village, as our old community hall had fallen into a state of disrepair and had developed into an eyesore facing our new Community Resource Center and the new development of Drumlane GFC’s football grounds and clubrooms. Visitors to the Parish often commented on the derelict building, so it was time to do something about it. Leader funding was being made available for community projects, so we submitted an ” Expression of Interest” form to them and received news that when we submitted detailed plans etc. our project would be considered. Our local architect Michael Fitzpatrick was approached and his firm were pleased to be associated with us, Shane Cusack worked with us in submitting plans, costs, getting quotes and all other work which needed to be carried out.. Cavan Co.Co. also helped us with funding. Work started on the site in January 2018 and the Garden opened in June 2018. we express our sincere gratitude to the following for assisting us with the smaller but important details. Ms Grainne Egan who composed the verse on the stone at the entrance, Ms Suzanne Gunn for the history content on the Tourist Information sign.
On the opening evening in June “our Village Space was officially opened by Mrs Lily O’Connor and Mr Irwin Morrow, in recognition of the wonderful voluntary work carried out by their respective spouses for the good of the community of Drumlane over a long number of years. The Blessings were invoked by Rev Tanya Wood and Rev Fr Gerry Comiskey, refreshments and a chat followed.
