Background

Opened in September 2006, Drumlane Community Childcare is a community childcare provider. Community childcare providers offer community based, not for profit childcare services. A community childcare service is run by a voluntary Board of Management which is a group of people who work together with the common purpose of managing an organisation.

Our Services

Our Facility is open from 8.00a.m- 6.00 pm, Monday through to Friday and we cater for babies from 1 year to children aged 12 years. We are closed for all Public Holidays as well as a week at Easter and Christmas.

We provide full day care, part – time day care, sessional & afterschool care, with a pickup from Milltown National School. We also provide the ‘free’ preschool year (ECCE).

Full day care, is a structured day care service for pre school children for more than 5 hours per day

Part time day care is a structured day care service for pre school children for more than 3 ½ hours per day but less than 5 hours per day

Sessional day care is as above for more than 2 hours 16 mins but less than 3 ½ hours per day

Half Sessional day care is as above and is between 1 hr and 2 ¼ hours

ECCE – free preschool year is for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week

We also operate the CCSP and TEC funded schemes and will also offer the National Childcare Scheme when it launches.

We have an abundance of parking spaces, planned in a way to make drop off and collection safe and easy.

Our Care Rooms

Crèche

Children from 1 year to 2.5 years are cared for in our specially designed baby room allowing us to provide the personal level of attention that all babies and young toddlers demand at this age. Prior to joining our facility, your room leader will discuss with you your baby’s routine and you will have this opportunity to discuss any concerns or worries.

Preschool 1

When children reach this room, they are offered a more structured play and learning environment catering to their individual needs. This is a transitional time for your child and while in this room you will see many changes. The first year of free preschool (ECCE) operates in this room

Preschool 2 (3.5 years to 5 years)

This is the The pre-school environment provides opportunities for children to develop their skills through a play-based curriculum and children learn through the medium of play.

Afterschool (5 to 12 years)

Children from 5 to 12 years of age are collected from Milltown National School by staff, are given a hot meal and staff supervise their homework After homework has been completed, children are able to relax after their day at school, or while on school holidays and are provided with a range of other activities including games, arts & crafts, as well as mixing with fellow friends, brothers & sisters.

Curriculum

Drumlane Community Childcare have followed the Aistear and Siolta Curriculum since 2010. Together these Frameworks provide a curriculum for children from birth to six years in Ireland. We particularly value play as a key learning mechanism for children in our facility, and so it fits very well with the play-based curriculum (Aistear and Siolta). In our weekly planning there are four key learning areas or themes of early childhood that we promote: Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating, Exploring and Thinking. All early childhood curricula must now share these learning themes.

The Great Outdoors

We have our own specially designed playground and, with parental consent, our children have use of the GAA Grounds for playing games on the pitch, the Community Playground and can enjoy nature walks around the Community Garden. We have also enjoyed the opportunity to avail of our own plot where we can grow our own vegetables.
