Drumlane Community Partnership Childcare -TirnabPaistiis located in the small village of Milltown, Co. Cavan – nestled a short drive away from its near neighbours of Killeshandra, Belturbet, Ballyconnell and Butlersbridge. It is within walking distance of the local Church and National School.
Our childcare centre is a state-of-the-art purpose built facility which combines a safe and stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors for children of all ages.
Our aim is to provide superior childcare during a child’s most formative years. Here we aim to develop children’s skills by making learning fun, as play is the main business of the lives of children
As no prospectus could ever describe the unique atmosphere of our early childhood centre, we strongly recommend that you contact us to arrange a visit as we would welcome the opportunity to show you our facilities and discuss with you your child’s requirements.
We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing“.

CARE CATEGORIES:
Play is the main business of the lives of children and is the way that they learn and explore the world around them. It is a vital process by which children develop their intellectual, physical, creative and social skills.”

Baby Room (3mths -2yrs)
Young children are active learners and this specially designed room allows opportunities for fun activities which enable children to develop their unique personalities and safely explore their environment while also allowing rest and sleep when needed.
Creche, sleeping area

Toddler Room (2yrs -3yrs)
This room allows opportunities for further language development and overall skills enhancement. It has been designed to give each child easy access to play equipment and caters for their individual needs. At this stage we work closely with parents in developing a toilet training programme and our toilet area is well equipped to operate this programme.

Pre-School Room (3yrs to 5yrs)
All pre-school children are given the opportunity for spontaneous play. He/she has the freedom to choose how they will play and it is the child who sets the agenda in a play situation. Children need to experience challenges, equipment and activities that will promote feelings of success, safety and fun.

After School Room (5yrs to 12/13yrs)
School age children are provided with a nutritious meal, homework supervision and opportunities for play. If required children can be collected and brought back to the facility from the local school. We are at present looking into ways of extending this service to other schools in the locality.

Committee

To ensure the smooth running of this facility a group of dedicated Committee Members meet once a month to discuss any item’s/concern’s that need to be examined by either the parent’s/staff. The aim of this group is to establish a happy medium so that the children being cared for in this facility experience a happy contented environment. Music lessons are held weekly in the main hall adjoining the centre.

Garden

In the spring of 2008 a Community Garden was established when Drumlane GAA donated a small plot of land which is located alongside the facility. At that time we were given 2 patches of ground in which to start our very own gardening project. The idea being that if the children grew their own vegetables, it might encourage them to try and possibly even enjoy them. The project got underway in April 2008 and the children planted carrots, turnips, cabbages, cauliflowers, broad beans, sweet peas, pumpkins, poppy flowers, sunflowers and marigolds. Even with the not so good weather it turned out to be a great success. Each day after the children finished their dinner and homework they would go out to the garden to check on their plants and later when the vegetables were ready they were picked, cooked and eaten the following day. We will soon be starting up our garden again to which the children are already looking forward to.

Drumlane childcare Tir Na Bpaiste opened its doors to the public on Monday 4th September, 2006 and was officially opened by Mr. Brendan Smith TD on Friday 20th October, 2006.

The facility consists of Creche, playschool and after school.

The crèche caters for 6 months to school age, it is very popular and busy so pre booking is essential to avail of places. It is open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday; parents can avail of full day or half day care.

The playschool caters for children from two years and ten months to primary school age. It is open from 9.am to 12.30pm with the staff having plenty of activities to keep the children busy.

The After school runs from 2.00pm to 6.00pm. Local children who attend Milltown N.S. are picked up by childcare staff and brought to the After school. A hot meal and healthy snacks are provided for the children. Homework, arts and crafts, reading and outdoor play are some of the activities these children take part in. We hope that in the future a rural lift scheme will provide transport to bring children from other local schools to avail of our After School facility.

Tir Na Bpaiste has a staff of seven and is managed by Rosaleen Morgan. It operates a healthy eating policy with an in house cook to provide the hot meals and healthy snacks. It operates 48 weeks of the year, for any inquiries in relation to the childcare facility contact the manager Rosaleen at 049 9529072
