Improved showing from our juniors

Apr 22, 2020

Drumlane produced a much improved performance to that of the one in Crosskeys a few weeks back when they pushed a strong Kingscourt Stars side at O’Connell Park last Friday evening in the ACFL Division Four.
Drumlane 3-5
Kingscourt 2-14

John Fitzpatrick’s early pair of points got Drumlane off to a good start in the game before the flame-haired full-forward had to be replaced by Shane Corrigan inside the first quarter with a groin injury.

Corrigan set-up team captain Eamon Fitzpatrick for a well-struck point moments after coming on, but Kingscourt fired an unanswered 1-2 before the break to give them a slender lead at the half-time whistle.

With several of their senior players lined-out, the visitors lashed over a couples more points after the restart, which was met by Kieran McGuire pulling off some brave work by punching Stephen McCann’s shot/pass to the back of the net for Drumlane’s first goal.

The hosts continued to exert the pressure and when a swift move down the right side, started by Brendan O’Reilly, saw Corrigan release John Deignan for the net, the Sons of O’Connell were within touching distance of the Stars.

However, the league-leaders responded handsomely with their second goal being backed up by an array of points from their impressive forwards before skipper Fitzpatrick ravaged through their rearguard and smashed home for Drumlane to make sure that just two scores stood between the sides at the full-time whistle.
Next up for Drumlane in Division Four is a short trip to neighbours Belturbet on Sunday week, May 17, where throw-in time at O’Moore Park is scheduled for 2.00pm.
